'Finally some fresh air' Aspen thought, as she leaned back against a tree in the commons area. Being stuck inside of the school for hours at a time was a pain in the ass and if the law didn't require that she went, she would have totally left by now. She could see her bike from where she was, not a motorcycle but and actual bicycle. She knew her bike was old as dirt but she loved it anyway plus it was a classic and a family heirloom, there was no way she was getting rid of it to get a new one. She sighed, closed her eyes, leaned further back into the tree, and let her thoughts drift back to the prison they called school.

"Struggling to survive in this, too?" Michael walked her way and stopped. He saw her bike and smiled, "Cute. You must really love that thing." His hand brushed the trunk of the tree with grace, piercing blue eyes seeing how old it really was. "Feels great out here."

Aspen looked up at the guy talking to her, "She's my baby, I couldn't bear to have anything happen to her, and yes it's a beautiful day. Which is saying something considering where we live and all." "Have I seen you around before?" She asked, already knowing the answer but felt the need to ask anyways.

"I don't know," Michael turned his eyes back to her, "maybe so, maybe not. I go anywhere the wind takes me...or something like that." His long black hair was tied back and was caught in the wind and revealed to Aspen just how long it really was.

Aspen let out a small giggle, "Going all philosophical on me I see, I'm Aspen by the way. So what's your Socrates?"

"I'm Michael." His elongated full face lit up a little as he saw her giggle. This human girl. It was easier for him to be around them than most of his kind. After all, he was taken in several homes after his parents died.
He wasn't about to think about it right now, though. Not at school, and definitely not in front of Aspen.

"Nice to meet you Michael," Aspen said. She looked up at the still stand boy, "You could sit down if you wanted too, I mean unless you wanted to stand up."

"I guess I could sit."
Michael was six feet tall and almost filled out his body structure. He sat down between two roots and leaned his head against the trunk. To keep his hair from getting dirty, he slung his ponytail over his shoulder. It had to be at least two feet long. "So, you're from around here?"

"Yuppers!" She said enthusiastically, "My whole entire life, with my family." At the thought of her family her enthusiam faded, something was going on in her family that they weren't telling her, but that wasn't anything knew, she was the youngest after all. "What about you?"

With a faded smile, Michael almost flashed a perfect set of white teeth. "I've lived here for about two years now. My family...we had to move during my sophomore year." It was a perfect lie, saying the truth was beyond all reasoning to someone that probably didn't know about the truth of his kind. But he had no say in it either, because he had no clue what he was for almost his entire life. How was this possible? Being raised by humans can do that.
