A Stranger Through the Door

Jasper opened the door and walked in leaving Logan to walk through and trusting his guest to close it behind him. He ran a hand through his slightly damp hair. Even running the rain still caught him.

"The bathrooms that way if you need a towel to dry off. Stay on the first floor."

Jasper walked into the den and sat down on the couch thinking about the days events. So far he'd run into Caliban (almost killed the male) and three new people. The other vampire he'd meet Jasper hadn't stayed around to find out what it's business was. Then there was Logan. Earlier that day he'd met Lexi, the girl from La Push.

La Push. Jasper snapped up and called to Logan."By the way there are shape shifters, wolves, in the area. We have a peace treaty with them-we don't enter their territory. So stay out of La Push. It's an Indian reservation. I'll show you later if I need to."

[Logan Markam]

Logan walked into the house and looked around. It was so open and airy, it was just like a human home, only prettier. He wanted to rip the things apart but he contained that part of his body. He shut the door behind him softly as he heard what Jasper said. Logan immediately went towards the bathroom and walked inside, grabbing a towel off of a rack nearby. He dried his hair and it got mussed and fell over his eyes.

"Indian Reservation?" Logan asked as he caught onto what Jasper was saying.

This was it, the chance to eliminate the Cullens, and his opprotunity to eliminate the wolves at the same time. If he could just put a toe out of line, and have the Cullens trust him enough, he could start the war and leave without even getting any murder on his hands. Seemed like a brilliant idea right about now.

Jasper nodded."Yea, the families at the Indian Reservation, La Push, change into wolves at will. They're not werewolves, but shape shifters. We have a pretty strong treaty with them now. They leave us alone and we don't prey on human blood or enter their grounds.

I suggest you don't. Seth might like you but the others would rip you apart. Or at least try." Jasper snorted."That boy wouldn't be able to do it but Sam and Jacob would have a fair chance. We fought rouge vampires with them once-trust me when I tell you they're good enough to give us trouble."

Jasper looked at the ceiling in thought."You'll smell them. You have any shape shifters where you're from?"

[Logan Markam]

Logan looked at Jasper and shrugged, this was meaningless to him, it honestly was. He didn't really care if he trespassed or not, but he wasn't about to TELL the guy who let him inside. He might get his throat ripped out if he did and he wasn't risking that so soon. Logan had a lot of skill, but if he dared to tempt the Cullens by himself, he would be in big trouble.

So, all he had to do was join the Cullen clan, get them to trust him, and then he could easily break the treaty with the wolves. It was too simple and he was having so much fun doing it too. He walked back into the living room where Jasper was and his eyes flickered to the windows. It was too airy for his liking, but he would get over it.

"So, they change into wolves eh?" he asked with a perked eyebrow. "No, we don't have any... Or at least any that I have seen."

Jasper nodded."Not like something out of SiFi but pretty close. It's just a simple change."

The vampire sighed and rubbed a hand over the back of his neck. It'd been a long day and he was grateful it seemed like night might be on the horizon. Night. "Oh sh*t," He filed through his pocket bringing out a piece of paper. "I'll have to meet with Edward tonight. You might as well come to. He'll probably give you the twenty questions."

Logan looked up immediately as soon as Jasper spoke of Edward and his confidence faltered. d**n! He didn't factor Edward into this, and he had been told all about him too. His ability to read minds were amazing, along with little Alice that he was supposed to try and recruit. d**n! He really DIDN'T think of it. This really put a wrench into the works of his fabulous plan. But there were ways to work around it.

Edward could only hear the thoughts passing through at the moment, or so Aro and Caius had said, so all Logan had to do was think of something else while in his presence. That was going to be hard since his mission was all that he ever thought about. d**n...

"Edward?" He asked, faking his curiousity, he already knew who Edward was, no duh there.

Jasper looked at him feeling the sense of worry and frustration floating through the other male. He raised an eyebrow."Edward is one of the first Cullen's and he's the you'll have to convince so that you can join us. Alice, my wife, is away at the moment so you don't have to worry about her. Edward's ability basically gives us a full proof ideal of what you're like or if we can trust you enough to let you join."

"He, Alice, and I are the ones who have a serious say in wither or not you can join because of our abilities. Of course everyone else will have to agree too." Jasper felt skepticism come back to him as he seized the other male. "You'll be asked questions and possibly asked to perform tasks. That's not going to be a problem is it?"

Jasper's voice became cold and crisp like it used to be when he'd give orders on the field of battle. He looked at the other male hard and calculating. Maybe there was more to Logan than he gave credit. He became weary, the sense of acceptance gone.

[Logan Markam]

Logan had to pull up his level of emotions or else he would be in trouble, his face showed a lot of what he was thinking and feeling. He wiped away any emotion from it and smiled warmly at Jasper, now noting the cool and crisp tone that he gave him. His plan wasn't working so well now that one of the Cullens didn't trust him, and when little Alice got back, it would be on. He couldn't wait.

"Of course I won't mind. I think it's a splendid idea. I mean, everyone has to take precautions to begin with right?" Logan offered and smiled again. He was trying to worm his way back into Jasper's mind and he was going to do it. Logan immediately pushed his will over Jaspers mind and put the thought into his head that Logan was a good guy, and not his enemy, and to trust him.

Jasper nodded again."You're right we do have to be cautious." The feelings of mistrust melted away and Jasper leaned for ward stretching his lower back.

"We'll wait for Edward to come home."

[Caliban]

Edward rushed towards home, his silver Volvo a blur on the road. He was going to have to talk to Jasper and then go find the rest of the coven before he talked about the Volture. He was also unnerved that Caliban had just simply disappeared. He couldn't figure it out. He parked, barely sparing the inched needed to keep the car from hitting the wall of the garage. He got out and ran inside the house, stumbling upon Jasper and some vampire he didn't know. His warning flags went up and he hissed, flowing into a defensive stance. He looked at Jasper and quickly went through his thoughts. Not much he could decipher without asking."Jasper, where is Caliban? What happened? Who is this and why is he in our home?" he asked heatedly.

Caliban sat on the side of the highway, his dirtboard and rollerblades forgotten. He waited to get control of himself before heading back to Forks or for Edward and Jasper to come looking for him. He heard the forest around him, felt it and sighed at how strong it was compared to him. He wished he could be like it with the strength. He hissed as he heard a voice. He didn't smell or hear anybody and the voice sounded like his mom. But it was impossible. She was dead. Had been for almost 50 years now. He couldn't stand it. He doubled over in pain as the voice continued, not making any sense. He relaxed a little when sweet, dark oblivion came, bringing quiet and the rain to him.
